Washington, DC. (08/18/2020). The 4th series of BIANKA or Bincang Karya was chaired by Prof. Popy Rufaidah, the Education and Cultural Attaché and it invited a number of speakers. First, Prof. Fedrick M. Nafukho, PhD., MDP., Professor and Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs from the College of Education and Human Development, Texas University. Prof. Nafukho explained material about emotional intelligence which affects education and learning during the Covid-19 pandemic. Prof. Nafukho also presented a case study on Southwest airlines.
BIANKA or Bincang Karya is a serial-webinar held by the Indonesian Embassy in Washington D.C., USA through the Attaché for Education and Culture lived from Washington DC., USA. The 4th series of BIANKA carries the theme, “Emotional Intelligence in US Higher Education”.

The second speaker was Dr. Tatiana Suspitsyna, Associate Professor from Ohio State University. Dr. Supitsyna explained the university’s readiness to welcome the fall 2020 semester learning at the end of August. The pandemic condition creates a dilemma situation for universities because they have to decide between implementing distance learning or continuing to do face-to-face learning and ensuring its safety. The Ohio State University responds to this by making several adjustments related to this dilemma by preparing several things. This readiness is divided into three dimensions including infrastructure and logistics, instruction and human resources, and student admission strategies.
There were other two speakers namely Taufik Mulyadin, Ph.D. from the Indonesian Education University, Bandung. Mr. Mulyadin conveyed the innovation of quality assessment in higher education in the United States, namely the National Survey of Student Engagement (NASE). This instrument is used to measure the performance of a higher education institution, especially in its educational services.
The next presenter was Nuzulul Isna, M.S., a doctoral candidate from Texas A&M University. In her presentation, Ms. Isna explained a supportive working environment. There are three forms of support that can be provided in the work environment, namely supervisor support, peer support, and organizational support. The reasons for the importance of these supports and their adaptations during the pandemic were also presented in the webinar.
The last presentation was made by Prof. Fathur Rokhman, M.Hum., Rector of the State University of Semarang who represented the Indonesian State University Chancellors Council. Prof. Rokhman conveyed his ideas about Growing Leadership in higher education in the new normal era and independent campus academic acceleration.
